ACS board OKs new administrators

The Anderson Community Schools Board of Trustees held a special meeting Monday to approve four appointments to administrative positions.

The appointments were approved under one agenda item by a 5-2 vote. Board members Robert “Buckie” Bookhart and Rodney Chamberlain were the “no” votes after stating they wanted to vote on each appointment separately.

Scott Shimer, currently the director of student services for the district, will become the new chief human resources officer, effective July 1. He will replace Scott Deetz, who is leaving the district to become a director and lecturer for Butler University’s masters program in education and administration.

“Through the summer, (I’ll be) continuing to hire great candidates to work with our students and our teachers in the Anderson community,” Deetz said. “There’s lots of great things going on in the community that I’ll continue to do, various agencies and things that I’m on the board for.”

Deetz said he looks forward to helping with Shimer’s transition into his new role as the district is welcoming in new teachers.

Shay Bonnell, currently the director of birth through sixth grade special services and transportation, will assume Shimer’s position as the director of student services and transportation, also effective July 1.

Dustin Steveson and Heidi Wilson were approved as the new assistant principal of Valley Grove Elementary School and assistant principal of Eastside Elementary School, respectively. They will assume their new duties on July 14.
