As part of a busy week for both players, juniors Isaac Fair of Frankton High School and Anderson High School’s Addison Goen notched strong showings Tuesday at the Indiana Golf Association’s Junior Tour stop at the Muncie Elks.
Among 24 competitors in the Boys 16-19 division, Fair placed second after a one-over par round of 73, three shots back of Westfield’s Jude Kaufman, who carded a 70 on the day.
For the same age bracket on the girls side, Goen tied for fifth with Izzy Huxley from Indianapolis with an 86 (+14).
Both Fair and Goen were also in action Sunday and Monday in Attica at the Central Junior Masters.
The Anderson junior heads to Richmond Wednesday and the pair will be part of a large area contingent for the tour stop at the Anderson Country Club Thursday morning.
Elwood’s Deacon Gregg also played Tuesday in Muncie, tying for 19th with a score of 93 (+21). The junior’s scorecard included a pair of birdies – both on par fives – and Gregg will be a part of that field in Anderson.
It was Fair’s second runner-up finish this summer after he tied for second place at The Players Club at Woodland Trails back on June 17 and 73 was his best 18-hole score in five events.
Goen managed one birdie on her round, the par-five fourth hole, but was still just seven shots back of first-place finisher Olivia Manning, a junior from Westfield.
This was Goen’s 13th IGA event since April and her fourth top-five placing. Her best finish to this point has been a third-place showing at Round Barn Golf Club in Rochester on June 1.
While Goen will be the lone local representative at Richmond Wednesday, she, Fair, Gregg, Lapel senior Owen Garber, sophomore Gavin Harris of Pendleton Heights, and her Anderson teammate and fellow junior Adelyn Swain are scheduled to play Thursday at the Anderson Country Club with play set to begin at 8 a.m.
