Administrators at Anderson Community Schools were notified this week that the district is now fully STEM-accredited.
The international accreditation, obtained through STEM.org, a national education research and credentialing organization, is for two years.
“This is recognition of what we’re already doing and that the program is growing,” said Andrew Jones, STEM coordinator for Anderson Community Schools. “We’re going to continue adding resources to the district and opportunities for students to have more engagement in STEM throughout their day. This is just a good incentive and recognition that our students are being exposed to that.”
Jones said the accreditation validates the work of many teachers and other staff members to bring STEM concepts into the classroom consistently.
“We’ve been working on growing our STEM program for the last several years,” Jones said. “All of the schools are doing more in robotics and having robotics teams. Some schools maybe have more of an emphasis on a school garden.
“Each school had some different elements, and we’re able to highlight what they’re doing.”
Last year, Anderson Intermediate School and Erskine Elementary School received different STEM accreditation through STEM.org.
