The Anderson Community Schools Board of Trustees will hold a series of town hall-style meetings to solicit input from residents on the district’s search for its next superintendent.
Current Superintendent Joe Cronk has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2027. He has served in the district’s top leadership post since March 2020, when he was named interim superintendent before being offered the permanent position the following year.
In September 2025, the ACS board voted 4-3 to extend Cronk’s contract through the 2026-27 academic year.
During Monday’s regular meeting, Board President Mandy Webb announced that five public meetings would be held throughout the summer to address and hear from community members about the search. The meetings, she said, would allow ACS staff, parents and residents to communicate their thoughts on the next superintendent.
Webb said the district has posted an online survey on its Facebook page inviting input as well. University Search, a free service provided by public universities in Indiana to assist school boards with selecting superintendents, is consulting with the board on the process.
“This is so important,” Webb told those in attendance. “We need your input. We have tried to give as many opportunities as we could in regards to (board members’) schedules and places. We need you to show up, so please attend. We cannot do this without you, nor do we want to.”
ACS board member JoAnna Collette echoed Webb’s encouragement.
“We are trying desperately to find all different avenues for you to participate, whether it’s the survey or community meetings,” Colette said. “If you cannot attend one of the community meetings and you have questions, please reach out to us.
“We truly are trying to make this superintendent search, which is very difficult, a community affair,” she added. “While the decision lies with the seven of us, we want it to be inclusive of what the community wants.”
