2026 Gaslight Festival Student Essay Contest and 4th Grade Art Gallery

The Anderson Gaslight Festival is scheduled for August 22 this year, and there are two opportunities for Anderson students to participate. This event is a wonderful way to unite our community and celebrate all of our amazing residents.

Essay Contest
All students in grades K-12 are invited to submit essays for the Gaslight Festival’s essay contest. This is an opportunity for our students to think about and share the ways that Anderson is a special community in alignment with the event's theme: Love Your City.

Winners, selected through a blind process by a committee of educators and Anderson residents will be invited to ride on the City of Anderson Trolley in the Gaslight Festival Parade with their families in addition to being awarded a prize package that includes: a cash prize, a medal, a Gaslight T-shirt, and other gaslight goodies. There are 2 winners in each of the 4 age categories. Details and submission instructions are in the explanation.

4th Grade Art Gallery
All 4th Grade students throughout Anderson are invited to create artistic portrayals of what they love about Anderson. Submissions that fit the requirements will all be displayed at the Gaslight Festival for parents, families, friends, and community members to admire. Fourth graders were selected based on Indiana State Standard 4.3 which guides them to reflect on local history, studying “key people, places and events that have shaped their state and region.” This is a possible culminating activity that could be included in those final days of school. The Gaslight Festival will provide paper and any requested materials.

Entry forms can be found below. If you have any questions or need any additional materials, please reach out to: Jill McMillen, Gaslight Festival Committee Member, [email protected].
