Statement from Superintendent Dr. Joe Cronk

January 2025

Dear ACS families,

Several parents and community members have contacted me expressing their concerns about the "mass deportation of immigrants" called for by President Donald Trump. As you have probably seen on the news and social media, shortly after taking office, the President sought to increase and expand the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) efforts of deporting individuals that have entered the country illegally.

I want to assure you that Anderson Community Schools (ACS) will not permit any party to remove a student, staff member, or guest from our schools without an appropriate criminal warrant or a court order issued through the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS).

Our building principals and school staff have been advised to inform our central office should an individual contact their school from ICE or another organization regarding deportation or immigration services in order to verify the warrant. Despite rumors circulating throughout the community, there have been no ICE agents at our school buildings or verified reports that they are in the City of Anderson.

I thank you for your attention to this matter and for your shared commitment to making each of our school buildings a safe and supportive place for everyone.

Dr. Joe Cronk
Superintendent
