Additional security measures have been put in place

This message was sent to parents and guardians through ParentSquare on September 18, 2024.

Parents and Guardians,

In recent weeks, we have seen a growing number of unverified school safety threats. This is consistent with what other schools and school districts throughout the state and country have seen lately.

Many of these threats are generated through social media and are vague in nature. However, please know that we take any threat or school safety concern we become aware of very seriously. And, we work closely with the Anderson Police Department (APD) to fully investigate each of them.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have put in place additional security measures, particularly at the secondary level (grades 7-12) where the threats have mostly come from, to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  While we can’t share the specific details in order protect the integrity of those measures, we felt it important to share that we have put additional measures in place because of the concerns we have received.

Please continue to talk to your students about the importance of reporting threats of violence. This can be reported to any principal, teacher, or adult working at your child’s school.

Along with that, please remind your students about the severity of making threats of violence. A student making a threat faces suspension and possible expulsion. In addition to that, they can face criminal charges by APD.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we aim to provide a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Sincerely,

Dr. Cronk
Superintendent
