Psychological Services is made up of 5 full-time psychologists, contract psychologists as needed, and a secretary. Each psychologist is assigned to 3 or 4 school buildings. Their main responsibility is testing students in their buildings to determine eligibility for special education services. When a referral for evaluation is received, it is processed and turned over to the psychologist for that building. When testing is completed, the psychologist will then compile all information (referral information, social/developmental history, classroom observation, testing results, etc.) into an evaluation report. The report will be typed by the secretary, proofed and signed by the psychologist, and copies will be sent to the school for the parent and the student’s file.
In the case of an initial evaluation, the psychologist will usually attend the case conference to explain the testing results. If for some reason the psychologist is not able to attend the case conference, another qualified person will be asked to explain the results. Psychologists may be invited to attend a reevaluation case conference but this is not usually necessary.
Psychologists may also be called as needed to help with grief counseling in the event of a death or some other crisis that involves a group of students. They are not responsible for individual counseling.
