Highland High School History

Highland High School is a public school located in Anderson, Indiana. It is a part of the Anderson Community School Corporation. Highland is located at the intersection of Cross Street and Rangeline Road, approximately one and one-half miles east of Scatterfield Road.

Highland was established in the fall of 1955. During the planning stages, the name was adopted by the school board and the holding company. Since the name Highland is of Scottish deviation, that theme has been carried throughout the school. The mascot is the dancing Scotsman. The school paper is called the Tartan, the yearbook is titled the Highlander, and the literary magazine is the Echoes from the Glen. The school colors which are plaid and white are based on the traditional colors of the kilt.

The mascots for the school are the dancing Scotsman. There is a male and female mascot which both wear kilts. Our athletic teams are known as the Highlanders or Scots. The marching band is also known as The Marching Highlanders and it includes bagpipes.

At Highland High School, the administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents believe that the primary concern of our school is to give every student the opportunity to acquire an appropriate education. Everyone is aware that the home, community, and school share in the responsibility to help the student understand the importance of co-operative learning and community involvement and to experience self-growth and independence which will create a positive self-concept.
