What is the National
School Lunch Program?
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is the most successful, longest running
federal entitlement program. It is an assisted meal program which provides
balanced, low cost or free lunches to about 24 million children each school
day. The lunch program is usually administered by the state education agency,
which operates the program through agreements with local schools. At the Federal
level, the program is administered by the Food and Nutrition Service, an agency
of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. For the 2009-2010 school year, Anderson
Schools served 1,183, 312 lunches (6538/day) and 422,077 breakfasts (2332/day).

These menu items are offered to every child in Anderson Community School Corporation.
There is an additional choice of entree’, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich
and a variety of vegetable, salad, and fruit sides (may choose two) and milk
also offered daily at each school.
